A successful French drain starts with careful planning and quality materials. Here’s a look at the installation process we follow for effective, long-lasting drainage systems in Greater Vancouver.

The Key Stages of French Drain Installation

1. Planning and Layout
   We first determine the best path for the drain based on your yard’s grading, low spots, and water flow patterns. The goal is to intercept water before it reaches your foundation or creates soggy areas.
    
2. Excavation
   We dig a trench to the proper depth (typically 24–36 inches for foundation protection) with the correct slope to ensure water flows naturally toward the outlet.
    
3. Laying Drainage Fabric
   High-quality geotextile fabric is placed in the trench. This is a critical step — it allows water to enter while preventing soil and silt from clogging the system over time.
    
4. Placing the Perforated Pipe
   The perforated pipe is laid at the bottom of the trench. We use rigid PVC pipe for durability and consistent performance.
    
5. Surrounding with Clean Gravel
   Clean washed gravel is added around and above the pipe. This creates an open space for water to flow freely into the pipe while protecting it from soil pressure.
    
6. Wrapping and Backfilling
   The fabric is wrapped over the top of the gravel to fully enclose the system. The trench is then backfilled with soil and restored.
